X Blade: Long & Short Plates Explained!

In general, there should be a dedicated wooden pressure plate used for each corresponding size or cutting dimension range. If the thickness or length of the input material changes, it is important to use the proper wooden pressure plate.

Thickness

To cut thick pieces (up to 120mm or 150mm), it is necessary to use the short pressure plate on the right side of the spindle.

This way, the spindle arbor can be in a lower position, while the rollers are set in a higher position to hold down thick lumber.

For short pressure plate, the maximum workpiece thickness is 120mm and 150mm for models SJ-120 and SJ-150 respectively.

For long pressure plate, the maximum workpiece thickness is 100mm and 125mm for models SJ-120 and SJ-150 respectively.

Length

The length of the lumber also needs to be taken into account. This is where the long pressure plate is of particular importance. Indeed, it allows to cut short-length lumber, while ensuring maximum cutting stability.

For short pressure plate, the minimum workpiece length is 600mm for models SJ-120 and SJ-150.

For long pressure plate, the minimum workpiece length is 250mm and 300mm for models SJ-120 and SJ-150 respectively.

Xtra Sharp is giving these numbers as a reference for reaching high cutting performance in the best possible safety conditions. It is essential to stay within the defined cutting range set by Xtra Sharp and not operate the multi rips beyond these limits.
